For italic, select your text, then go to Format and select Underline. If you want to change the font, you can do so by selecting another one from the font drop-down menu. If it’s not there, go to TinyMCE’s settings and drag it to your toolbar like you see in the screenshot.

I’m using the newer Gutenberg editor, and when I make a block a heading, it defaults to H2. With my theme, this looks too big (practically the same size as my H1 title), and I have to manually change each heading to H3 every time I want to use one. It’s pretty tedious. Is there a setting or something I can change so that it defaults to H3 instead of H2? Thanks.

This is not the easiest method but it is the most recommended. You define custom css classes in your theme’s custom stylesheet and use those classes with-in the post. This method requires a bit of technical knowledge but it is the most efficient since the classes can be used across several posts/pages without adding any extra code to each and every page.
